About Us
Brian Mellema is a third generation farmer. In the early 1900's his grandfather immigrated from the Netherlands and began dairy farming in Southern California. Later, in 1970, his father Jack moved to Lynden to begin his own dairy farm (Jack Mellema pictured on the trike, grandfather Bert Mellema in the "Mellema Dairy" truck). Like his father and grandfather before him, Brian has always had a love of farming. Early on he gained an understanding of the sacrifice and hard work it takes to be a farmer, and also the rewards it brings. In 2014, along with his wife Kim and their two daughters, Brian made the decision to plant strawberries on his childhood family farm in Lynden, WA. The rich and fertile soil of the river bottom produced amazing results and since then, he has been committed to bringing Mellema Farm's high quality strawberries to the community. Mellema Farm is situated along the river with a picturesque countryside setting for U-Pick. Bring the kids and let them experience the outdoors in a natural farm environment.
